Money and Blogging

Blogging, Making Money, SEO, SERPS, PageRank, Great Advice and a whole lot more.

I am no expert on this subject, as a matter of fact I would have to say I’m the guy in the corner of the classroom wearing the dunce cap and looking rather befuddled on the whole matter if my earnings to date were to be the measure of my worth when it comes to blogging.

This site has been up and running for over a year now and at the current pace I should qualify to get my first Google Adsense check in another month ( $100 minimum payout ). Is that enough for me to quit my day job? Hardly, but I’m still thrilled as hell about it! To actually get money for doing something fun is a good deal in my book I’ve been seeing progress and positive signs on my site like my Alexa rating dropping to under 100,000 my RSS feed having over 100 subscribers and over the last 3 months I avg over 2,000 unique visitors daily (my best day had over 12k). This is a major victory for me considering I only get a chance to blog in the evenings and weekends while still trying to do all the other things I like to do and managing to fit sleep somewhere in there as well.

Now this is all good and fine for me right now but I have my sights set on higher rewards and achievements. The only way to do this is keep on blogging and keep LEARNING! This is a never ending quest to stay up to date on all the latest trends, tricks, tips and advice from those who have been there and done that.

I hereby present to you those sites that I have in my RSS Reader, check daily and consider essential:
[sorted alphabetically]

  • Blogging Fingers - Blogging Ideas, Tips, Creativity and Money Making Strategies for Blogs : from the site: I had been blogging for 6 months before starting this blog. The first of those 3 months was on a blogger blog, where I first discovered my passion for blogging and learned a tremendous amount about blogging and myself. The second blog I created was Affiliate Programs and Internet Scams which I sold after 3 and a1/2 months for $1000. As well as teaching me more about the blogosphere, selling it was a real encouragement that re-enforced my already strong belief that blogging was going to be more than a hobby for me. By the end of my GAP year I aim to be making a full time income online.
  • Blog Storm : from the site: Although this blog is intended to provide updates and information about our Tracker service the main aim is to help bloggers and webmasters learn about the effects of social media on their marketing campaigns.
  • Chris Garrett - The Business of Blooging and New Media : from the site: Chrisg.com is where Chris posts daily (or thereabouts) thoughts and advice on the business of new media, blogging and online marketing. The aim is to teach you ways you can create compelling resources, provide your audience more value, build trust and loyalty, and generate more rewards for yourself.
  • Courtney Tuttle - Make Money Online Free : from the site: This site is not your typical ‘make money online quest for cash’. When I started to read blogs and other sites about internet marketing and making money online, I realized immediately that most sites on the subject don’t explain things very well. This site is about exactly that, explaining things in a manner that is easy to understand. While I was working as an internet marketing consultant, I started creating websites on the side. Before too long my hobby became my passion, and my full time income. I left the company, and have been making all of my money online for over a year now.
  • Daily Blog Tips : from the site: There are more than 50 million blogs worldwide. Every day 180,000 new blogs are created… that is 2 blogs every second. Quite astonishing for something that was almost inexistent a couple of years ago right? Most of those blogs, however, get abandoned after an initial period of enthusiasm. Even skilled writers get discouraged when they realize that people are not reading their stuff. Content is surely king, but great content might just get lost on the Internet if not supported by promotion, search engine optimization and the like. With that problem in mind I decided to create Daily Blog Tips, a place where you will find simple yet effective tips to improve your blog.
  • Dosh Dosh - Making Money Online : from the site: Dosh Dosh is a blog about ways to make money online. Topics commonly featured on this blog includes professional blogging, affiliate marketing, get-paid-to programs, advertising networks and social media monetization.
  • John Chow - The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul : (is John Chow Famous or Infamous? Depends on your point of view. I call him one wealthy mofo) from the site: For the first time visitor, this site use to be call The Wired World Of John Chow. Now it’s call the John Chow dot Com The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul, because that is what I am - a Dot Com Mogul - and that is what I’ll be doing - rambling.
  • Kyle’s Cove - Tech News, Bloggin Tips and Making Money Online : from the site: Kyle’s Cove is a personal weblog that was started by Kyle Eslick on June 30, 2006. Kyle loves to talk tech, and loves to make money, so he decided to put the two together and document his experiences on this site. Since that time, this blog’s focus has changed a little bit, allowing me to cover just about anything I find interesting, including technology, blogging, open source software, search engine optimization (SEO), and chronicling my experiences of trying to make money online.
  • One Mans Goal : from the site: I’m a 25 year old serial entrepreneur from the St. Louis area and this is my goal…Setting goals is something the average person does… Achieving goals is a task left to a special few. I am one of the special few, and the best way to prove that, is by doing it. That’s why you are here. The internet is a powerful tool that I have yet to take advantage of. It has amazing reach and covers just about any target audience or demographic that is available.Give me 365 Days and I will attempt… I WILL… create a viable source of income by harnessing the power of the net. I am not a guru, techie, coder, blogger, or a professional. I hope to learn these things as I go and pass them on to others.
  • Pro Blogger : from the site: Welcome to ProBlogger - A Blog that helps bloggers to add income streams to their blogs. My name is Darren Rowse and I’m a full time Blogger making a living from this new and dynamic medium from blogs like Digital Photography School.
  • Success For Your Blog : from the site: The Blog about successful blogging. No matter if you need help getting ideas for your blog or generating money implementing revenue streams with your blog you can find it here at Success for your Blog.
  • Susan Suarez - Online Journal to Creating a Successful Site : from the site: Hi, I’m Susan Suarez. I’m 29 years old and I’ve been using my background in marketing to expand and reach audiences that share my many interests, some of which include environmental issues, lending and internet news. I am passionate about my work and involvement in these areas, in which drives me to only do much more! I’m a new mother of a very active little girl and love to spend time with her while reaching out to others to give them a helping hand.I’ve been in the online marketing business for over 4 years working with a couple large companies. The past few months I’ve taken a change of pace from the 8-5 workplace and have created a couple sites for myself. I’ve had ideas for this blog for some time now and I have finally gotten around to creating a blog to talk about everything under the umbrella of what’s going on the web.
  • Seopher - Making Money Online, Blogging and all things Technological : from the site: I’m a 22 year old web developer living and working around Cambridge in the UK. I graduated from University in 2006 after studying Computer Science and continue to be fascinated by all things technological. Seopher.com was started properly in October 2006 as a place where I could explain my thoughts on the computing world we live in. It quickly progressed to more than a journal and continues to grow.
  • ShoeMoney - Skills to Pay the Bills : from the site: Schoemaker focused on the aspects of marketing that were second nature to him. He built his sites on those natural marketing principles while running the backend. Web design was a secondary skill, so he focused on the marketing of the sites, which then built revenue. Later he would invest in a professionally done design. Schoemaker continues to focus on existing sites and expand their income potential by building a network of sites centered on a central theme. Again, the Coke Theory. Small changes can equal big revenue.Once a base of traffic and revenue is built, don’t be afraid to experiment with the site. Once the traffic is there, small changes in design and structure can make big changes in revenue. Ad placement, recurring subscriptions and affiliate marketing can ad value to a site without disrupting the base of revenue. Monitor revenue daily, even hourly to see how your changes have affected revenue. If it’s not working, you can always go back to the way it was.
